A relocation housing brief you can use
A useful housing brief explains what makes a home work for the household. Complete this template before comparing properties or requesting home-finding support. Keep essential requirements separate from preferences, and describe actual journeys instead of relying only on neighbourhood names.

Record the people and dates first. A temporary stay for an employee arriving alone may have different requirements from the later family home. Make those stages visible rather than compressing them into one arrival date.
- Destination city and origin: [details].
- Household members, pets, and arrival dates: [details].
- Intended work start and accommodation needed from: [dates].
- Temporary stay required: [yes/no, dates, and household capacity].
- Accessibility or other essential needs: [details].
2. Work and daily journeys
Provide exact workplace addresses where possible. Compare the whole journey, including walking, transfers, parking, and the trip home. If another household member works or attends school elsewhere, include that destination too.
- Primary workplace address and attendance pattern: [details].
- Other regular household destinations: [details].
- Acceptable door-to-door journey: [preference].
- Transport available on arrival: [public transport, vehicle, employer transport, or other].
- Parking, bicycle storage, or accessibility requirements: [details].
3. Property and budget
Separate costs paid by the employer from those paid by the household. Clarify what a price includes before comparing properties: furnishing, utilities, parking, and provider terms may differ. Ask for any specialist review needed for the actual circumstances.
- Housing budget and currency: [amount and what it covers].
- Employer-covered housing or search services: [scope].
- Property type, bedrooms, and working space: [requirements].
- Furnished or unfurnished: [preference and essential items].
- Essential requirements: [list].
- Flexible preferences: [list].
4. Move-in and delivery
A home’s room dimensions do not establish whether furniture can reach them. Check the entrance, stairs, lifts, unloading location, and the building’s delivery process before a shipment is confirmed.
- Belongings being shipped and approximate dimensions: [inventory].
- Storage required before delivery: [details].
- Stairs, lift, entrance, and unloading questions: [items to confirm].
- Person receiving the shipment: [name or role].
- Temporary-stay extension process if the home is not ready: [arrangements].
5. Review each shortlisted property
Use the same questions for every option. Note what is confirmed and what still needs checking so a listing is not mistaken for a fully assessed home. Keep the decision owner and next action clear.
- Address and source listing: [details].
- Complete workplace and household journeys checked: [notes].
- Budget, furnishing, and provider terms confirmed: [notes].
- Documentation, access, and delivery questions outstanding: [notes].
- Decision owner, next action, and deadline: [details].
